As an Approved Payments Institution (API) JustGiving is required to comply with the Money Laundering Regulations (MLR), enforced by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
This includes verifying the identity of people in a position of responsibility at your organisation. For most charities, this will be Trustees, but can also include Directors/Executives, Board Members, Financial Controllers or Treasurers.
What do you need to submit?
- The names of two Trustees/Directors*, their dates of birth and home addresses
- A copy of valid photo ID (passport, photo driving licence or a government-issued photo ID etc)
* If your organisation does not have Trustees, we will require details from two people in positions of responsibility/control within your organisation, such as Director/Executive, Board Member, Financial Controller or Treasurer.
The data you share with us will be processed and stored in compliance with GDPR regulations. This includes being stored on a secure database which will only be accessed by the JustGiving compliance team and law enforcement agencies upon request.
Where can you submit this information?
If your charity is new to JustGiving, you’ll be asked to share this information as part of the joining process.
If you’re an existing customer of JustGiving and your charity's trustee/director details have changed since you submitted them to us, then please contact us at memberships@justgiving.com.
With FCA regulation comes peace of mind
Your trust and the security of your supporters’ online donations are important to us – it’s a responsibility we take very seriously. And it’s why we’re proud to be the first fundraising platform in the UK to be an Approved Payment Institution (API). It provides you and your supporters with additional reassurance as your donations are protected by financial industry standards. These include:
- Safeguarding your donations – the money people donate on JustGiving is ring-fenced and protected, which means you’ll receive 100% of it in the event of an insolvency
- Access to the Financial Ombudsman – you and your supporters can approach the Financial Ombudsman if you feel we haven’t resolved a complaint to your satisfaction
As an API, we are also required to comply with the Money Laundering Regulations (MLR), enforced by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), which includes identifying and verifying information about your Trustees (or persons in a position of responsibility), as well as keeping it up to date.
